Want to freshen up your JEWELLERY BOX for the NEW SEASON? This is the necklace trend to TRY NOW …
For those of us who remember coveting Cher Horowitz’s wardrobe (and the admittedly forward-thinking computer programme that styled her every outfit), it’s hard to fathom that chokers are back. But after trickling down runways last year, their appeal has continued to grow – at every price point. Even at the very top end of the spectrum, fine jewellers are acknowledging the demand – House of Garrard, one of the oldest jewellery houses in the world and bearing the seal of the Prince of Wales, recently showcased their decidedly decadent version, with stunning diamond detail atop a black velvet band.
Fashion, however, is at the core of the trend – and the high street have of course taken it up with gusto, bringing it from its grungy 90s roots to instead style it as very pretty and hyper-feminine, whether worn with a floaty chiffon dress or open, tailored blazer. H&M are blazing a trail – they have an abundance of choice, from single sheer ribbons to multi-packs containing two or more options, to allow wearers to really play with the style. We love their chain mail version, for a grown-up, polished feel.
Admittedly, it’s also very satisfying (and important) to get a jewellery wardrobe working hard – and so we are loving the thought of taking a double wrap leather bracelet from Pandora, and wearing it as a choker instead. It’s just the right length, and with new spring colours just launched, for now, it feeds perfectly into Dior’s SS17 direction of delicate chokers with glimmers of silver – but come next season, double it back up as a bracelet and keep enjoying it as a piece that will transcend the current trend.
