The Most Glamorous Lip Balm You’ve Ever Worn

The latest MUST-HAVE to add to your MAKE-UP BAG, YSL‘s VOLUPTÉ TINT-IN-BALM will be your everyday saviour …

We were at L’Oréal’s HQ last week to see YSL make-up expert Fred Letailleur in action, giving us the lowdown on the delicious new Volupté Tint-in-Balm (€33 at Brown Thomas). These are essentially the poshest lip balms you’ve ever worn. There’s more to these than a heavy silver bullet case. What we like about them: the balm is really nourishing and conditioning for the lips, with lots of macadamia butter and lovely oils (including coriander oil, which is a new one on us), so they feel silk and light and have a delicious fruity taste. The heart-shaped core is not mere decoration but a lip stain, helping the colour to last far longer than any regular lip balm. They’re a great mixture of grown-up and sophisticated yet young and fun.

This is all about natural, uncontrived beauty – just dash on and go. Letailleur’s demo was wonderfully quick and easy because these do not require lip liner, or hours in front of the mirror perfecting a Cupid’s bow – whether you’re stopped at a red traffic light or you’re running late for work, these add a bit of glamour to whatever you’re doing. They’re also the ideal choice for people who think they can’t wear red or bright lipstick, or if bright lipsticks generally tend to dry out your lips. For evening, add a glossy top layer of YSL Volupté Tint-In-Oil for a really reflective shine.

Keep foundation light with these, advises Letailleur; the look is fresh and barely-there. And not just because it looks better: “There are long-term skin benefits from wearing a softer coverage rather than a full mask of make-up,” notes Letailleur. “It’s about knowing your skin. Look at your face in segments, and target what you need precisely – there might be areas you need concealer, or Touche Éclat, but it’s not an all-over approach.” For a dewy finish, we like his tip of prepping skin with YSL Instant Moisture Glow with a foundation brush either under or over make-up.

There are 12 juicy spring shades of Volupté Tint-in-Balm, and they’re available at Brown Thomas now (though shades such as Dream Me Nude are already out of stock online); at YSL counters nationwide from April.
