Our fourth annual wedding salon, which took place on Saturday, March 25 at The Merrion hotel, was a family affair, with many of the recently engaged guests choosing to attend with their mothers or sisters to plan their perfect wedding day.

Covering every possible organisational concern, the event was hosted by Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin and organised by wedding planning expert Tara Fay of Xena Productions.

Founder and Director of the Brown Sugar salon group Mark O’Keeffe and Creative Director Christian Shannon addressed the question of bridal hair, from cut, colour, styles, timings and tips and they stressed the important of having multiple trials with your hairdresser so that there’s no surprises on the day.

Brown Sugar makeup Director Dearbhla Keenan’s presentation on bridal beauty was extremely informative, offering brides tips on how to approach the look on the day, the importance of choosing the right products for your skin type and how best to prepare your skin in the lead up to the big day.

One of Ireland’s foremost fashion designers Louise Kennedy flew in from New York on the morning to introduce guests to the bespoke bridal experience at the bridal room at Louise Kennedy. Beautiful silk and lace gowns from Louise Kennedy’s bridal atelier were showcased at the event, giving all of the brides-to-be present endless inspiration. Also on display were looks for mother-of-the-brides and wedding guests.

Tara Fay talked guests through floral arrangements and bouquets. Giving the brides tips on how to hold their bouquet (it should always be held in line with the belly button) so that it is best seen. Next, one of Ireland’s most influential photographers Barry McCall addressed choosing a photographer, photography styles and budgets as well as how to make the most of your photographer on the day.

During a delicious three course lunch which included salmon four ways and assiette of lamb, Ed Cooney Executive Chef at The Merrion discussed the process of choosing the wedding menu. After lunch Paul Kelly, The Merrion’s Pastry Chef presented ideas for wedding desserts, and guests enjoyed being able to see a number of wedding cake designs from the traditional to the contemporary. All of which looked almost too good to eat …

Arnotts personal shopper and stylist Ingrid Hoey then showed a collection of pre-wedding and post-wedding outfit suggestions as well as packing suggestions for the honeymoon. While Clara Halpin personal shopper and lingerie specialist from Arnotts gave a demonstration on the best types of lingerie for the wedding day, emphasising how important the fit is and talking through what particular pieces are suitable for specific shapes and dress styles.

Guests went home with a gorgeous goody bag from THE GLOSS, with gifts from Brown Sugar, Newbridge Silverware and The Merrion. After guests took part in our social media competition all day by sharing their favourite moments of the event, one lucky winner was chosen to receive a special prize from Ashford Castle which included a luxury mini moon for two worth over €3,000. The winner will enjoy an overnight stay for two at the exclusive Hideaway Cottage at Ashford Castle, dinner in the renowned George V dining room and a spa treatment of choice in the award-winning Spa at Ashford Castle.
