From pampering at OSLO to checking out Dublin’s NEWEST MARKET, here’s what you should do THIS WEEKEND …
WHO? Painter Paul Klee said, “drawing is taking a line for a walk,” something that artist Martina Galvin delivers in a sculptural way in her exhibition Cubus at The Butler Gallery in Kilkenny. The installation is a series of repeated geometric forms, painted in a range of colours, and immense squares that stand directly on the floor and invite the observer to contemplate space. The use of linear acrylic rods as a conduit to radiate light, line, colour and intricate shadow, are all fundamental elements of Galvin’s work.
Cubus runs until April 23, www.butlergallery.com, Butler Gallery, The Castle, Kilkenny.
WHEN? We’re heading to the preview of Private Lives by Noël Coward at the Gate Theatre on Friday 31. Directed by Patrick Mason, and set in France in the 1930’s, this is a classic tale of bitter sweet love. Elyot and Amanda, who marry not wisely but too often, find themselves thrown together again on their respective honeymoons still hopelessly in love with each other. Rebecca O’Mara plays Amanda Prynne, while actor Shane O’Reilly returns for his second production at the Gate, playing the role of Elyot Chase. The play officially opens on April 5 and runs until June 24. Tickets from €25. www.gatetheatre.ie.
WHERE? After some shopping at Arnotts, we’ll be sampling Ladurée’s Afternoon Tea, served at Clodagh’s Kitchen, where we’ll be imagining ourselves in Paris. The luxurious tea comprises three tiers of tasty treats that include Pâtisserie Ladurée; freshly baked financier and madeleine cakes, along with their signature mini macarons. The Ladurée Afternoon Tea for two people will be available from Monday to Sunday for €45, or with a glass of bubbly for €60, for a limited time only. www.arnotts.ie.
WHY? We’re off to investigate Oslo Beauty & HotAir Blow-Dry Bar in Ranelagh, which opened last week. As the name suggests, the décor is distinctly Scandinavian with clean lines, oak and marble as the backdrop to their manicure stations and pedicure area. The salon is a one-stop shop offering everything from High Definition Brows, Mink lashes, Waxpert’s waxing, Vita Liberata spray tanning and facial treatments from cosmeceutical brands Image Skincare and Alpha-H. To book a treatment call 01 5323566, www.inoslo.ie.
WHAT? On Sunday we’ll be checking out The New Market Collective in The Green Door, Newmarket Square, D8. With the aim of highlighting Irish design and craft, the market will be selling and showcasing over 50 stalls of collectors and innovative products. These include textile-making and clothing, pottery and ceramics, jewellery, glass and woodworking and furniture. In addition there will be vintage stalls, homeware and accessories. Expect a lively atmosphere with a café and music. From 11am until 5pm.
Don’t miss our next issue, out Thursday April 6.
