WHY… Because it’s spring, Perrier-Jouët, has just launched a pretty Spring-Garden Afternoon Tea experience at The Restaurant by Johnnie Cooke at Brown Thomas Dublin.  We’ve had a sneak preview of the menu and can say that the selection of savoury and sweet treats created by chef Johnnie Cooke is innovative and enticing. The Victoria sponge with champagne rhubarb cream is a highlight while the presentation focussing on floral details is exquisite. Priced from €30 per person, with the chance to experience one of several Perrier-Jouët vintages, guests will also get a special origami anemone flower to take home. The Afternoon Tea runs for two months only.

WHAT… After hibernating for much of January it’s time to get our exercise plan in shape, excuse the pun. Sleek, stylish and welcoming, the studio has 10 state-of-the-art Allegro 2 reformers and a ballet barre ready for the perfect grande plié. Upstairs, a private studio provides space for their clients to work with one of the skilled instructors. Across their six studios, Platinum cover nearly 300 classes a week, with 22 qualified teachers, bringing their own flavour and flair to each class. WHERE… Heading out of town with the children, we’re looking forward to visiting the world’s oldest working lighthouse at Hook Head in Co Wexford. Donning our sensible shoes, we’ll be climbing up the 115 steps of this fifth century tower to see where the monks lit fires to warn ships off the rocks, as well as learning more about the history of the owner. Built by the 1st Earl of Pembroke, William Marshal was also known as the “greatest knight that ever lived” and he came to Ireland for love, marrying the daughter of Earl Richard of Striguil otherwise known as “Stongbow”. Isabel de Clare’s wealth paired with William’s status meant they became a medieval power couple. As a favourite proposal site, Hook Head has a special Valentine’s Day tour for €10, and a family tour ticket is also on offer for the same fee from Saturday, February 11th until Tuesday February 14th. AND… We can’t overlook the fact it’s Valentine’s Day on Tuesday – not ideal during a working week. That’s why we like the sound of the Galway Food Tour on Sunday 12th February. The tour will take place in Galway’s now famous west end eateries including Kai, Dela, Rouge, Pearla Na Mara, The Universal, Deli La Tosca, Blue Note and Mitzi’s Mezze. “At each stop, the food tour is treated to a flavour of what each place offers as well as a little tipple,” Sheena Dignam the tour organiser tells us. “Each location has a story to tell and this is the beauty of the tour, you get to experience the inside track on all these brilliant food and drinks haunts.” The tour takes place from 6pm to 8:30pm and is priced at €55. To book call Sheena on 086- 7332885 www.galwayfoodtours.com
