Jewellery curator at SHOWCASE IRELAND (and resident Jewellery Editor) NATASHA SHERLING shares her pick of gorgeous Irish jewels for the year ahead …
Showcase Ireland is one of the foremost trade shows in the country for fashion, homewares and jewellery. The standard of work produced by some of the country’s best makers is so high, and every year it gets better; fashion forward, luxurious pieces are taking centre stage and really changing our connotation and understanding of what Irish design can really be.
I have the good fortune to be the Jewellery Curator for the show; it means working with designers in the months leading up to the event, and really getting a good understanding of their process and inspiration. It also means getting a sneak peek of some really promising work before it ever hits a shop floor. Here, three jewellery designers to watch for 2016:
AMOC Mette O’Connor is the goldsmith behind this brand; her gold and silver pieces have a beautiful weight to them, and they are a real treat to wear. Her Urchin collection, inspired by the sea, is surely one to covet – beautiful in silver or gold, the real impact is made by those pieces that are blackened and set with diamonds.

INNER ISLAND Sharp and punky, the Duende collection from Inner Island has an easy quality – extra long necklaces weighted with slender gold and silver bars; cool graphic cocktail rings perfect for index fingers.
ISLE JEWELLERY: Nature is, and I suspect always will be, a huge influence for Irish jewellery designers. ISLE have done a beautiful job of taking this inspiration and twisting it into something modern, abstract and fresh – their Fionn collection is based on the Giant’s Causeway and comes in silver, rose or yellow gold. The stud earrings and stacking rings are particularly effective.
Showcase Ireland runs until Wednesday, January 27. Although the show itself is trade-only, find out more about the designers (including stockist information) by checking
